Umara Pulavar Award to Chief Minister M Karunanidhi:

  • Chief Minister M Karunanidhi will be conferred with ‘Umara Pulavar Award’ during the three-day international Islamic Tamil Literary convention which begins in Chennai from 25 May.
  • Speaking to reporters here yesterday, Idhayathullah, general secretary, Islamic Ilakiya Kazhagam said the award is given to the Chief Minister for his contribution to Tamil literature. The award to be given by Raghuman Khan, Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha, carries a cash prize of Rs One lakh and will be presented at the valedictory function, he said.
  • The three-day meet will be inaugurated by State Finance Minister K Anbazhagan at Kalivanar Arangam and will have symposiums, book releases, seminars, religious discussions and speeches, short plays and poetry. Also, a souvenir will be released on the occasion.
  • Leaders from various religious will speak on ‘One God, one caste’ where Kunnakudi Adigalar will speak on Hinduism, Anudhasan Adigal on Christianity and KVS Habeeb on Islam. Union Minister G K Vasan will give away cash prizes of Rs 10,000 and a shield to people under 12 different categories like the best poet, educationist, student and lyricist, Idhayathullah said.
  • He further said that around 400 Islamic and non Islamic scholars including women, who have done their thesis on Phd / M Phil on Islamic Literature will present their papers and will be awarded shield and certificates.
  • At the valedictory function, the Chief Minister will honour the Sahitya Academy award winners - Thoppil Mohammad Meeran, Kaviko Abdul Rahman and M Mehta.
  • The seventh literary convention is conducted to create communal harmony through literary initiatives irrespective of caste and religion. The theme of meet is ‘Winning hearts through literature’, Kaviko Abdul Rehman, director of the Islamic Ilakiya Kazhagam said.
  • Governor Surjit Singh Barnala, Malaysian Minister Datt G Palanivelu, Sri Lankan Ministers Ravoof Hakkeem, M Ameer Ali and various scholars across the world are participating at the convention. Source: NewsToday
