Lanka Newspapers:

CHENNAI: Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Sunday said that the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) was being misguided by certain outfits headed by leaders like Nedumaran in Tamil Nadu.

  • The LTTE has adopted a wrong approach under the influence of these leaders .only because of that, a solution has been eluding the Lankan Tamils issue``, the DMK chief said writing for Murasoli.
  • Referring to the reports that the LTTE leaders were hailing Nedumaran for criticising him (Karunanidhi) for stating that Prabhakaran should be treated with respect even if the Tigers lose the war, the DMK president said: Those who does not know the history may hail people like Nedumaran...they may even thank leaders like Jayalalithaa for demanding the arrest of Prabhakaran.
  • Karunanidhi further said neutral leaders know that a solution to the Lankan Tamils issue had been eluding just because the Tigers had adopted a wrong approach under the influence of leaders like Nedumaran. The DMK chief said he was one among those neutral persons.
  • Replying to another query, Karunanidhi said neutral leaders know well that the Centre had been doing its best for resolving the Lankan Tamils issue. In this connection, he recalled the visit of External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee to Lanka in October, 2008 and Centre`s insistence that cessation of hostilities in Lanka should happen and a negotiated political settlement was a must. He also referred to the despatch of medicines and essential commodities to the displaced Tamils in Lanka and the statement made in Congress party`s election manifesto. (Express News)
