PULSES & EDIBLE OILS AT FAIR PRICE SHOPS :

On the orders of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu , the Government of TamilNadu procures essential commodities such as pulses, edible oil, rava and maida at reasonable prices and distributes them through the fair price shops in order to keep the open market prices under control.

  • This scheme was launched on the Tamil New Year’s Day i.e. 14.4.2007 in Chennai City.In the second phase, this scheme was extended to all the fair price shops in the remaining districts of Tamil Nadu from the month of May 2007. Accordingly, Toor Dhall, Urad Dhall and Palmolein are being procured and supplied to the fair price shops by TamilNadu Civil Supplies Corporation for distribution to all the card holders. 15,000 M.Ts of wheat allotted by Government of India at the open market rate has been purchased by Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies.
  • Corporation Limited and they are converted by private Roller Flour Mills as Rava and Maida. Now, Rava and Maida are also being distributed to the card holders of Tamil Nadu through fair price shops. Due to the implementation of the special public distribution system, the open market prices of Toor Dhall and Urad Dhall, have been reduced to the level of PDS rates.
  • Hence, the Government revised the rate of Toor Dhall under the PDS from Rs.34/- to Rs.32/- per Kg. Similarly, the rate of Urad Dhall has been reduced from Rs.40/- to Rs.36/- per kg. This scheme has kept the spiralling open market prices of these essential commodities under check.This scheme has been well received by the public . The present prices of these essential commodities distributed through fair price shops are as follows: SI.

Government have decided to implement the scheme on a continuous basis. Based on the orders of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu another important aspect of the scheme is distribution of Toor Dhall and Urad Dhall in lesser quantities i.e. 250 gram and 500 grams also to the card holders.
